At Simply Side Saddles, our goal is to help you find your dream side saddle and side saddle related equipment. With many years of experience as a rider, coach and judge of side saddle, Penny Clarke now travels throughout the UK and Ireland, sourcing side saddles to meet your needs. It can seem a minefield knowing where to start finding a saddle that fits both you and your horse. Getting it wrong can be an expensive mistake, so Penny will help you find the right saddle, usually being able to bring a selection of possible saddles for you to try. Side Saddles vary considerably in age and condition. The majority that we still see gracing our show rings and hunting fields are the best part of 100 years old. Some even older saddles can still be seen in use. Irrespective of the age of the saddle, it is essential to check that the saddle is still sound, particularly with the older models and at simply Side Saddles, we would always recommend that you use a specialist side saddle saddler to regularly check out your saddle and tweak it for your own horse. A list of specialist saddlers can be found on The Side Saddle Association’s website. If you are looking to sell a side saddle, we can also take the stress out of that process. We usually sell side saddles on a commission basis (please see our terms and conditions), though in some situations, we may be prepared to buy your saddle outright. We are well placed to be able to find the right buyer for your saddle as Penny always takes saddles with her when running her extensive programme of clinics throughout the country. For those of you new to side saddle, hiring a side saddle may be your preferred option- we do have saddles available for hiring on a short or longer term basis. We also work with Rob Jenkins of Malvern Saddlery who produces the most beautiful new side saddles, modelled on the traditional makes of Mayhew, Owen and Champion and Wilton, Rob’s saddles incorporate many advancements in horse and rider comfort and safety, They are particularly useful for the wider horse/ cob who may be more difficult to fit in the older makes of saddle. Penny can let you try one of his demo saddles by request. In addition to the side saddles themselves, we also carry a stock of second hand and new side saddle girths, balance girths, covers and other equipment.
