Over her years of riding side saddle, Penny has taken part in a wide range of different equestrian disciplines. She has competed successfully in pure showjumping, team chases, dressage and working hunter, as well as specialising in showing top level show horses in both astride classes and the Ladies Show Horse categories. She has long been a staunch supporter of The Side Saddle Association and champions their competition structure which puts emphasis on the riding abilities of the rider, opening up the whole world of riding side saddle not just to those who ride on show horses. It is probably through the showing world that Penny is best known, having competed and won at major shows all over the country, including The Royal International Horse Show (RIHS) and Horse of the Year Show (HOYS). She has many national wins to her credit on different horses and now devotes her time to helping her clients fulfil their own ambitions. Clients range from complete newcomers to sidesaddle, to those taking part in the SSA Rider of the Year finals, with others perfecting their riding to enable them to take to the hunting field aside. Penny runs regular clinics all over the UK as well as lessons from her base near Cirencester, Gloucestershire. She is able to get riders started on their own horses as she has side saddles available to fit most horses. Those new to riding side saddle can be reassured that horses seem to take to being ridden side saddle very positively from the outset, though Penny also runs regular mechanical horse side saddle clinics which are particularly useful for those who don’t have their own horse or who would just prefer to learn the ropes on a horse simulator.
