Side saddle instructors like Penny are specialised and rare. Her capacity to inspire is required by those riders who find their love of horse riding challenging.

I have known Penny for over 20 years as a competitor, judge and instructor. She is passionate about the art of riding side saddle and is a successful rider having won many classes at major shows across the country and qualified many times for HOYS.

Penny is an excellent judge of how much of a push riders need and will change her approach if required. She is happy to also offer advice in all areas of horse care, not just riding. Her attention to detail, tenacity and commitment knows no bounds.

Penny is professional but also very approachable and friendly. She explains and also demonstrates her instructions in a clear manner and always provides rationale to underpin her advice. Penny always has a positive attitude and her experience at top competition level gives riders an incentive to progress further.

Penny is an asset to the Side Saddle Association as well as the equestrian industry.

It was exactly a year ago that I met Penny and we began our side saddle journey! From the start Penny was so encouraging, positive and inspiring, giving me the confidence to venture out hunting, take part in a side saddle dash and also compete in the showing ring, all within a year! Penny was quick to recognise and very fortunately for me, that Pie is a natural side saddle horse, so we were able to make swift progress and even master some jumps, although I will admit that was quite a challenge to start with but with Penny’s encouragement we are getting there! She also been crucial in guiding me to find the correct saddle, introducing me to Rob Jenkins and the appropriate dress likewise with Phyllie Robertson. I am hugely grateful to Penny for sharing all her knowledge and expertise.
